Use cases for Mender in Industrial and Manufacturing industries

Robust and secure OTA software updates for:

• Gateway management devices on assets such as smart elevators, escalators and moving walkways. Mender also provides role-based access (RBAC) for safer management of the updates to the gateways.  Security is assured with end-to-end encryption on the software and hardware.

• In Industrial IoT, operational technology (OT) is looking to embrace the benefits of OTA software updates for the embedded gateways on programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and SCADA systems. The use cases include remote monitoring of production machines, predictive maintenance, machine process optimisation so waste and energy consumption is reduced and production quality is increased. Updates to gateways on PLCs must be done securely. PLCs are now connected to cloud systems. Without OTA software updates these devices will have security vulnerabilities.
